Getting Back on the Wagon!

IMG_3756.JPG

I must confess, I had fallen off the health bandwagon for four or five days, but today I jumped back on! I had a big test to take this past Friday and I am not a good test taker. They make me SO nervous!! Like, so nervous, that I would sit down to study, open the book, stare at the first page for about 20-30 minutes and then get heart palpitations and close the book. I did this for several weeks before the test and then had to cram weeks of studying into one day. Because of my anxiety and procrastination, it is likely that I will be taking this test again, but I won’t know for a few weeks.

So, what does any of this have to do with my personal health challenge? Well, I was doing good, staying away from sweets and fried food, and exercising daily and then last week happened. Wednesday night I didn’t exercise because I was going to “study”. Thursday was cram session day, Friday was test day, and then the weekend hit. You get the picture. This is what happens to me every time I get in a good groove with being healthier. Life sidetracks me. It tosses me a curve ball and most of the time, I just give up for a few weeks, undo all my progress and have to start all over again, but not this time!  It’s important to not let life sidetrack you if you are on a similar journey. I refused to let it get me down.  Sunday afternoon, I re-stocked the fridge with fruits for protein shakes, veggies, Greek yogurt, chicken, and fish. I also decided I am going to kick the exercise up a notch this week and do a few morning sessions with Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred along with my nightly walk/jog and exercises from my Facebook page that I check in with daily. (Thanks, Darla!!) I’m also tossing around the idea of signing myself up for the Charleston Bridge Run in the spring. I think having a goal to work towards, that’s not weight motivated, helps me. I did this several years ago after I had my second little monkey and was so proud of myself for accomplishing it (especially, since I was pregnant with my third little monkey by race time).  Exercise is key, people!! I already feel stronger after just a few weeks of consistently exercising.

Also, I am starting my third week on Plexus. I chose to do the triplex, which helps cleanse your gut of bad yeast called candida. It is a probiotic, a cleanse pill and the Slim “pink drink”. I did have a tough time the first two weeks with bad headaches and stomach cramping. All of which is natural when you start a cleanse for candida. That bad yeast does not want to give up possession of your gut! Towards the end of last week, the symptoms started to go away and now I am not experiencing any of those symptoms. So, if you are out there struggling to get into a healthy groove, just do it! Don’t let setbacks, sideline you. (I’m giving this pep talk to myself along with hopefully encouraging someone else out there!)  Even if all you do is start walking for 20 minutes, a few times a week or drink an extra glass of water or two, any little accomplishment, is still an accomplishment!! Little changes can lead to big changes!

Side Note: If you have ever thought about trying Plexus products, now is a great time. If you sign up between now and Friday to be an Ambassador, you can save half off the sign-up fee and the products are cheaper. Let me know if you are interested and I will be glad to get you more information.

My July Finds- On Sale!

Tomorrow starts early access to the BIG Nordstrom sale and everyone is losing their minds in the fashion blog world.  I have to admit, I’m pretty excited to see what all is on sale, but I don’t have anything on my wishlist that I just have to have. There is another sale going on today at my favorite store- J.Crew and J.Crew Factory!! I have been a J.Crew fan since before internet (showing  my age, much). In high school, I had to wait for the catalog to come in the mail, dog ear my “wishlist” items, save my money, and then call the company to order. Crazy, right? Heck, I even worked at J.Crew Factory for a while when Jus and I were first married. The monotony of folding and folding and folding was all worth it when a new shipment came in and I got to try on everything before it ever hit the store floor. Oh, and did I mention the discount? I basically worked for clothes, but it was so much fun!

I try to stick to a monthly clothing budget and yes, I realize to some people, that sounds crazy. You buy clothes every month?!? Yes, I do! I love clothes, what can I say? And this month, almost all of my budget was blown at J.Crew Factory. There was just too much cuteness. I wanted to share all my finds with you because I checked today and every one of them is on clearance with an extra 50% off! So here are the things I couldn’t live without this month.

This Mixed Stripe Teddie Sweater was just too cute to not grab! It’s light weight and perfect to wear with some shorts on a summer night and its going to look great with jeans come this fall. And it looked amazing with this vintage VW Bug that I keep asking my hubby for, but so far he keeps saying “no”.

Here I styled it with my favorite pair of wide leg jeans, the Rebel Pendant and Taj clutch from Stella & Dot (both found on my site). Just add some wedges for laid back, yet put together perfection!

This cutie I purchased last year from J.Crew, but I wanted to share it with you because there is a similar dress and skirt on clearance right now at J.Crew Factory. Since the dress is so colorful, I try to keep the styling easy with a simple flat or casual wedge and small jewelry.

Don’t forget your accessories!! This hat is another Target find and was less than $20. Also, I LOVE this Stella & Dot bag for the beach or pool. It hold your phone, keys, chapstick and other little things that you have to keep up with.

T.G.I.F.!!!! I don’t know about y’all, but even though I had a short week, I am ready for the weekend. I’m a little strange in the fact that I can deal with chaos (3 boys, remember?) but I feel best when I am on a schedule. I guess we can call that organized chaos. On Friday’s during the summer, the monkeys and I head to the pool. That got me thinking about suits and how difficult it is to find one that is cute, covers, and doesn’t cost a ton of money. So, I rounded up a few for you guys and guess what? They are all under $40!!

Operation Get Healthy- Week 1 Run Down

I started off this past Monday on an operation to get fit and healthy. I’m just so tired all the time and I have no energy. I know it’s because of my terrible eating habits and lack of exercise. I have 3 little monkeys to take care of (4 if you count the hubby), a full time job, and college courses to get through, so having no energy just isn’t cutting it for me.

I started the week off strong doing PiYo Monday AM and walking in the PM. The PiYo (hard core on the floor-yep!) really aggravated my bowling injury. And by bowling injury, I mean the bruise on my hip and sore shoulder that I lodged into my lungs when I fell at the bowling alley on Father’s Day. Graceful, I am not!! So, I had to take it easy the rest of the week. I scaled back to walking in the afternoons and doing ab exercises and lunges. After another visit to the chiropractor, my shoulder is much better and I can do push ups again without wanting to cry.

I did ok with my eating, too. Stayed away from Little Debbie cakes and pop tarts- now that’s progress! I had a protein shake every morning and grilled chicken and veggies for lunch. Dinner was whatever we were all having, but I made sure it wasn’t too bad or that I didn’t completely hog out. I even had a salad when we went out with friends Friday night and did not order the chocolate cake that LOVE to get at the club. I do feel better already and I slept good this week. I am also less bloated. I did not weigh or check my measurements because I am trying to focus on my overall health, not my waistline.

Goals for this week- I hope to keep making progress and stay away from sweets and Diet Coke. I started Plexus yesterday so I am waiting to see how that works out.  I am also checking in with a friends facebook page where she gives encouragement and daily exercises. (If you would like to know more about that, let me know. She is a great motivator!)  It helps to have some accountability. Let’s hope I can keep it up! Feel free to share some tips or tricks you all use to stay motivated.

Mellow Yellow

Top and Jeans: J.Crew Factory, Shoes: Converse, Bracelets: My Stella & Dot, Bag: Retired Stella & Dot.         http://www.stelladot.com/lindsayjcollar

They say yellow evokes feelings of happiness, optimism and energy. Well, that must explain all the yellow I’ve been buying lately. I’ve never been a huge yellow fan but it seems to be having a moment right now and apparently, I have jumped on that fashion train. And yes, it does make me happy. I mean, it’s the color of  sunshine! I was in a great mood all day and I’m sure it had nothing to do with the my extra long weekend or getting my hair done. It had to be the yellow! I think the key to wearing yellow is to find a shade that works for you. I can’t do light or muted yellow. With my blonde hair and fair skin it washes me out. I look best in bright, saturated colors. Oh, and I would never try and pull this color off in winter. A slight tan is a definite! What do y’all think? Are you willing to give yellow a try?

Monday Mom Style

Happy Monday!! You know what can make Monday better? 40% off at Loft!! The skirt I wore today is a great Loft find. I saw it online a few weeks ago and loved

it but decided it would look terrible on my short frame. Then I saw one of my favorite bloggers wearing it and it was AMAZING!!! You do need to size down and it does come in petite. It can be worn with a white or black tank top for a night out or chambray button down for the office. You could even rock a bold colored top of you really wanted to make a statement. I paired mine with chambray for work today along with my favorite turquoise jewelry pieces, my trusty Cork wedges and my new Stella & Dot Ellie hobo bag. I have put together some other really cute skirt options for you guys from Loft that would look great with a basic tee or tank. Enjoy!

Hi!! Welcome to the Circus!

First Blog Post!!! I am so glad that you have stopped by to check it out.  I first thought about starting a blog years ago to talk about inexpensive mom fashion and I guess what they say is true; you only regret the things in life that you don’t do.  I love reading some of my favorite blogs and looking at their lives through Instagram.  Most are fashion or home interior and all of them are moms in different stages of life.  They really have inspired me to start my own little creative place on the internet. I am excited to use this as a creative outlet.  I love fashion, decorating, painting, crafts, and anything creative. I also think that being a wife, mom, holding down a job, keeping up with the house, etc, etc, is hard some days, ok, most days. I wanted to create a place to share some funny stories, share some things that I think are cool or projects that I am working on (because I LOVE a project) and help support other women out there that are wearing many hats. Warning!! I am NOT a writer. Stay with me and hopefully, I will get better along the way.
